San Antonio Raceway (San Antonio, Texas)

Qualifying Dates: March 26-27, 2004

Fastest Qualifying Run: 6.354 seconds (Qualifying Session 2, Friday)
Top Qualifying Speed:
219.76 mph (Qualifying Session 2, Friday)
Qualifying Position:
23rd

Notes:

- It was a disappointing weekend for Charles Carpenter as he failed to qualify for the IHRA season opener.

- Adding to the somber mood in the “World’s Fastest ‘55” pit was the fact that Carpenter’s engine failed during his fourth attempt to qualify.

Charles Carpenter Quote:

“While this is not the way we had hoped to start the IHRA season, we are pleased to know that the coatings Embee Performance is using on our parts are working. We were really surprised to see as little damage as we did when we pulled the engine apart. The cylinder head, valve, valve seat and piston were all hurt to varying degrees. But there was no damage to the cylinder and so we are in much better shape than we could have been.”
