IHRA TORCO RACE FUELS NORTHERN NATIONALS
QUALIFYING REPORT
US 131 Motorsports Park
(Martin, Mich.)
Qualifying Dates: August
13-14, 2004
Fastest Qualifying Run: 6.352 seconds (Qualifying Session
1, Friday)
Top Qualifying Speed: 222.03 mph (Qualifying Session 1, Friday)
Qualifying Position: 23rd
Notes:
- This was Carpenter’s
first attempt to qualify “The World’s Fastest ’55 Chevy” for an IHRA event since
experiencing a devastating crash in May. Repairs to the Embee Performance and
Doherty Motorsports sponsored Chevrolet were completed in a remarkable seven
weeks.
Charles Carpenter Quote:
“We just don’t have enough
runs on the car since the wreck. We have changed to a 728 (cubic inch) engine,
installed a full-floater axle, and rebuilt about half of the car. But we learned
something of real value in the third qualifying round regarding our set-up. Now
we’ll take that to our next event at the Quick 8 race in Jacksonville (N.C.)
next weekend and play it out.”
