IHRA PRESIDENT'S CUP NATIONALS QUALIFYING REPORT

Maryland International Raceway (Budds Creek, Md.)

Qualifying Dates: September 24-25, 2004

Fastest Qualifying Run: 6.388 seconds (Qualifying Session 1, Friday)
Top Qualifying Speed:
222.07 mph (Qualifying Session 1, Friday)
Qualifying Position:
19th

Notes:

- After Saturday night qualifying, Charles Carpenter was in good company in a bad place. Carpenter found himself with the likes of Shannon Jenkins, Harold Martin, and the last IHRA event winner, Pat Musi, as he failed to qualify for the IHRA President’s Cup Nationals at Maryland International Raceway.

Charles Carpenter Quote:

“Even after 30 years of racing experience, it can still come down to driver error. Friday night I deep-staged and I figure I gave up somewhere between 3 and 8-hundreths on my ET (elapsed time). That would have been good enough to qualify. Our second round was decent for the conditions we had. Most of the cars didn’t get down the track. Obviously, we missed the call for the third pass because a 9.83 is not going to help get you in the show.

“You can go from hero to zero in no time at all in this sport. But no parts are broken and that puts us in good shape for our next race."
